Mission

The mission of MaineWebAid is to serve as a catalyst for positive social change by providing internet and technology consulting to non-profit organizations in Maine. MaineWebAid provides free web-design and valuable technologies and resources to better fulfill their mission. 

Vision

The world wide web is the greatest advancement this century and beyond. Information, and its availability and how we access it will rapidly continue to evolve and connect greater populations around the globe. The internet - our fountain of knowledge - is the major driving force behind the spread of democracy, advancements in health, the propagation of education and ultimately the betterment of life. 

Consequently, more and more people are turning to the web first to seek out the opportunities provided by non-profits. The goal of MaineWebAid is to ensure that the nonprofit sector of Maine is connected to those people.

Philosophy

The philosophy behind MaineWebAid is comprised of two tenets: 

Openness - The MaineWebAid project is inspired by the free culture movement and common content often seen in the form of open-source software, open-content, open-course-ware and the public domain. Openness fosters creativity, ensures accountability, and quickly disseminates ideas and advanced thought. 

We adhere to this idea by licensing everything written on this site under Creative Commons and maintaining transparency by providing information and documents concerning our internal operations upon request.

We also promote the use of open-source alternatives for web and desk top applications when appropriate. 

Efficiency - It is our aim to make the largest impact with the minimum of resources. In our world of finite resources and exponentially increasing consumption - it would be unfair to not consider the adverse affects of wastefulness. At the same time, we owe it to our donors to stretch their dollars as far as possible and to ourselves to expend less energy while making a bigger impact.
